Rumours going around alright but there doesn't seem to be any kind of official line on it at the moment. Hopefully something solid will come out soon.
I would think it would need to be a team of similar calibre to Man City to really draw the crowds. Anything else i.e Liverpool XI etc… and we will only pull a few thousand at most.
Man United, Liverpool etc… with a guaranteed few first team starters and we could easily see between 20,000 and a sell out.

I suppose we're really only looking at Man U, L'pool, Arsenal, Chelsea or Celtic & possibly Spurs are the only teams we would hit the 20K + mark. Any other premiership team & we'd be lucky to hit 10K. Not sure how realistic it would be in trying to get a big mainland european team. How involved are Limerick in getting these friendlies? Or is it through some agency/promoter?

In today's local that it could be Celtic. They play over here regularly and never pull much of a crowd so not sure what they might pull for Thomond park.

Saw that, they'd really have to bring their 1st team to get a crowd in, rather than the select XI bunch that they usually bring over. I'm sure they'd still have a big enough following around munster, if they brought the 1st team you could see them bringing over a crowd themselves for it

Seems Celtic are playing about 4 games already in Ireland. Any more rumours about a friendly? Surely to be announced soon if one is organised.

I doubt we'll be playing anyone at this stage, all the big clubs have their pre season plans in store since months ago, unless its a last minute 'select xi' which is about 3 first team squad members, 3 reserves & the rest youth players

I have heard it will be Celtic. Bad friendly if you ask me. They are playing around 5 friendlies already in Ireland so they certainly won't be a pull. If it is Celtic I'd say a crowd of around 3,000-4,000.

Can you imagine the crowd Celtic would draw, I'd definitely be giving that one a miss

Shur why would anyone go to see Celtic, Their players wouldn't make any English premier league teams, defeats the purpose of a moneyspinning big name pre season friendly, I don't know any Limerick FC supporters who'd have an interest in paying in to see us playing the Celtic 1st team, let alone whatever shite they send over here to play. I'd agree in that it'd be lucky to break 4000 at it.

Maybe it's not happening at all now because they couldn't secure a bigger team. Thomond Park are the ones organising it as far as I know so if they can't be guaranteed a big crowd they will probably leave it.

According to the leader Spurs are being lined up sometime in september, I can only imagine this being on the weekend of the World Cup Qualifiers, with Spurs sending over the rest of the squad that aren't on international duty.
